Employee´s report
Andreas Engelbertz
apprentice tool mechanic - moulding technology,
SONA BLW PRÄZISIONSSCHMIEDE,
Remscheid Plant
I practically inherited this profession, as my father is also a trained toolmaker. As such, I learnt at an early stage the demands this profession makes; i.e. accuracy, concentration and the ability to recognise and eliminate problems independently. Neither should you be afraid to use new scopes of work and techniques, since this profession involves all kinds of cutting processes and the corresponding machines. You also need some dexterity to learn many craftsman's skills. The apprenticeship period for a toolmaker is 3.5 years.
When I obtained more information on this profession from the employment exchange, I looked at the list of companies that offered apprenticeships and saw ThyssenKrupp. You get to know many different departments in such a large company, and this makes the apprenticeship even more comprehensive. The machines we learn on are also completely up-to-date.
I am now in my second year of the apprenticeship and the time flies, which shows that it is not a boring job. I have been offered a reduction in the apprenticeship period due to my good performance, and this has been an additional incentive.
I can only say: you are the future, make something of it!
